To Be A Kid Again One of the Coolest Toys
To be a kid again, with an imagination that invented far-away worlds and great wars between robot, animal, and human. Maybe it was GI Joe. Maybe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I'd pull certain features off one figure and swap them onto another — my Leonardo wore Shredder's blades, and other figures traded armor or weapons. The battles were real in our minds.
The bathroom that became outer space
Some 90s apartment washrooms had a heat lamp over the tub — a UV lamp that threw off heat (and cancer, which is why you don't see them around much anymore). Turn it on, kill the other lights, and the whole bathroom glowed a dark, almost blacklight red. I'd build spaceships out of Lego and that red became the ship's territory in outer space. Fill the tub and suddenly we had ourselves a water world.
That's how we dreamed up the battles between good and bad. Evil would rise, and the good guys always came out on top — whoever we picked was the ultimate power. We brought them to life in our minds.
Now they're real: Robosen
And now someone's brought them to real life. Robosen did it. Their flagship Megatron is right there — the kind of thing that used to only happen inside our heads. Watching it move, it's the same childhood fascination with taking toys apart and bringing them to life.
And it's not just this one bot. The Soundwave version is the one I love. Robot? Toy? Both, and neither does it justice.
Minus the price... though, looking at what these bots can do, I get it. Truly a dream come true.
