An Ultimate Network Tools Resoursce
A blog or two ago I mentioned some gems of sites and blogs—selfless acts of sharing exclusive resources. Well, if you're into anything "networking" (not the "hi, my name is..." type done at conferences—computer networking), this is an extensive page of software that covers it all.
What it covers
Bluetooth? Yup. Check your IP? Yes. See every computer and device on your network? Mmm hmmm. Monitor the traffic coming and going from your machine? Sure thing. Capture packets? Yah huh. Get info on the adapters connected to your PC? Uh huh. See the IP addresses talking to each other over your connection in real time, with detailed info on each one? Yes.
You get what I'm putting down. This is the full meal deal. And what a lot of software charges big bucks for, this does for free. Serious—you don't come across a treasure trove like this often. Yet here you are.
Worth a look either way
Even if you're not into the network analysis biz, it's cool to poke around and explore. Maybe you'll catch something—a hidden security camera, or the fact that your neighbours are leeching your WiFi and downloading some really questionable content while they're at it. They think they're ninjas? Call them out and cut them off. Watch them squirm. Or run a speed test across your WiFi channels—there might be some hidden performance to be gained. If packet capture is where you want to go next, Wireshark is the deeper rabbit hole.
The virus warning
One thing before you go crazy downloading these: some register as a virus. I'm not sure if that's just the nature of the program or if there's truly something in there. They're old programs, and someone could've hacked the resource and swapped them out—but I doubt it. My bet is it's just what these tools do getting misinterpreted as malicious. Use them ethically, since they're powerful and could easily be pointed in a direction that isn't.
